● Recommended Stages

While the route can be completed in 2 days by very fit hikers, we recommend 3 days to fully enjoy the experience. The Refugio Cooperativa Goloritzè serves as an excellent midpoint and base for additional day hikes or relaxing beach days.

DAY 1: Santa Maria Navarrese to Refugio Cooperativa Goloritzè

The trek begins at Santa Maria Navarrese, a charming fishing village on Sardinia's east coast, right next to the Torre dei Saraceni — a picturesque sight on the beach.

After a short climb and a fantastic view from a well-positioned panoramic platform, you reach the start of the famous Selvaggio Blu. From here, the trail passes through dense forest to the steep cliffs that characterize the island's coast.

Key stops:

  • Pedra Longa — The impressive rocky needle, with a restaurant for a break
  • Secluded swimming bays with crystal-clear water
  • Cala Goloritzè — The famous dream beach

End the day at the Refugio Cooperativa Goloritzè, where rangers can provide valuable information and advice.

DAY 2 (Optional): Rest Day or Day Hikes from Refugio

The Refugio is an excellent base for:

  • Numerous beautiful day hikes in the area
  • Relaxing beach days in secluded bays
  • Exploring the surrounding Supramonte terrain
  • Simply resting and enjoying the wild landscape
DAY 2/3: Refugio Cooperativa Goloritzè to Santa Maria Navarrese

Return via the same route or explore alternative paths back to Santa Maria Navarrese, completing the loop.

⚠ Important Notes

  • Some trails in this region have sections that are overgrown or no longer exist, making it very easy to get lost
  • These routes are not suitable for beginners
  • Rangers at the Refugio can help with information and valuable advice
  • There is little shade and you are exposed to the elements all day — bring sun protection, a hat, and a windbreaker
  • Carry at least 3 liters of water per person per day

★ Pedra Longa

This impressive rocky needle rises dramatically from the sea. There's a nice restaurant here where you can take a break and refuel. The views from this point are spectacular.

★ Cala Goloritzè

One of the most beautiful beaches in all of Italy, if not Europe. The water is incredibly clear and bright — perfect for swimming in the secluded bays along the way. The famous limestone arch and crystal-clear waters make this a must-see destination.

★ Coastal Cliffs

The view from the high cliffs is breathtaking: you have a wide panorama of the intense blue of the Mediterranean and the picturesque landscape of Sardinia. The rugged cliffs and deep valleys of the Selvaggio Blu area are a true paradise for hikers.

★ Refugio Cooperativa Goloritzè

A perfect midpoint for your trek, staffed by helpful rangers who know the area intimately. An excellent base for extending your stay with day hikes or beach days.


● Getting There

By Air

Sardinia has three airports:

  • Olbia (OLB) — In the north, ~2.5 hours drive to Santa Maria Navarrese
  • Alghero (AHO) — In the northwest
  • Cagliari (CAG) — In the south, near the capital

By Ferry

Ferries connect mainland Italy to:

  • Olbia (north) — From Livorno, the ferry takes about 8 hours
  • Cagliari (south)

To Santa Maria Navarrese

  • By bus from Olbia: ~5 hours
  • By car from Olbia: ~2.5 hours
Tip: Use apps like Skyscanner for finding cheap flights and OMIO for booking bus and train tickets within Italy.
